Both Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang and municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh on Thursday afternoon called for stronger measures to break chains of transmission in high-risk areas such as alleys and apartment buildings across the city.

Mr Quang said that the fresh COVID-19 case tally in Da Nang on Thursday, September 2, touched the double-digit mark for the second straight day but the risk of COVID-19 resurgence remains high in the city.

The Da Nang Party Chief stated that there has been an increasing number of infected patients who have already completed their compulsory quarantine period and tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently. He, therefore, stressed the need for the health agency to pay inspection visits to designated quarantine facilities across the city to assess monitoring and surveillance of the implementation and compliance of COVID-19 precautions among people in managed isolation.

Secretary Quang called for more drastic and stronger measures to contain the spread of the virus in locked down areas, especially in alleys and apartment buildings as soon as possible, as COVID-19 infections are still reported in these high-risk areas. He highlighted need to evacuate residents from alleys at high risk for COVID-19 in a bid to prevent further spread of the virus as it can be difficult to ensure good compliance with social distancing regulations in crowded alleys.

The Da Nang top leader is urging leaders of districts to take all necessary measures to stop more cases arriving in red zones and spreading to yellow and green zones with strong determination.

Mr Quang asked the health agency to implement the city’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout in fast and safe practices, and set up more vaccination sites to accelerate the city’s COVID-19 vaccination programme for all eligible people across the city.

Municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh highlighted need to consider evacuating residents from high risk areas for COVID-19 in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus.

Mr Chinh unveiled that the municipal administration will re-open some activities after September 5. He called for enhanced surveillance and increased controls at residential settings after the city starts to slightly ease its COVID-19 restrictions.
